Mausritter and it's cousins- 2024-05-05
Mausritter
The original. Forty-eight pages in the 2.3 version I have. A very rules light game, that scales from individual mice to skirmish-sized warbands. Built on the Mark of the Odd chassis (like Cairn). It’s a d20 roll-under your stat. There are no rolls to hit, if you attack, you just do damage. Magic, conditions, inventory are all easy with a slot based system to track it all and nifty little item cards to put down on the character sheet.
An absolute blast to play.
Mauspunk
An extension to Mausritter (you must have the game to play), it clocks in at 24 pages. It captures the feel of cyber-punk settings pretty well. I haven’t played this one, but I will.
Birbritter
An eight-page hack of Mausritter (you must have the game to play) that provides rules for creating Birb characters, and some birb-specific items. Meant to be played in the same world as Mausritter. It would probably not take much effort to bend it to playing urban, cyber-punk birbs in Mauspunk. I might try to bring this one to the table too, but if you have bird-lovers in your group, I’d say it’s worth a good luck.
Mouse Gold
This is a work in progress, and doesn’t (yet) have a cool cover. Instead of hacking a new setting or character type onto Mausritter, it ports the setting onto a Trophy Gold engine. I haven’t played this yet, but I think it will be easier for players if a bit harder for GMs. If you like Trophy, or want to try playing a Swords and Whickers game with a more narrative focus, this one is for you.
Which flavor of Mausritter are you most interested in? Is there another flavor you think I should be looking into?
One More Thing
I don’t want to leave this week without talking a bit about Beneath Ahknoor. The Playtest Rules are feature complete, and my wife is making an editing pass. I need to finish up the three levels to be included in the playtest, but they are very close too.
It’s coming soon, very soon!

Great article on Mausritter and it's cousins. The one I am most excited about is Mauspunk, but I really like cyberpunk. The only one I didn't know much about was Mouse Gold.
