Two Things This Week - 2025-05-12
It’s been another good week for reading, writing, and gaming: I ran three sessions and played in a fourth, I started a new short arc of Shadowdark, I began closing the book on my almost 6-year-old AD&D campaign, I started planning a new campaign to replace it, and I started prepping for a one-shot for three or four men who I was the scoutmaster for nearly 20 years ago.
Read on to see what else took up my time last week.
What I did last week
This is a bit of a dev journal.
Beneath Ahknoor
I’m feature complete on the three dungeon levels that will ship with the playtest, and I made an initial pass through them.
I’m starting to get notes back from my wife’s editing pass and am cleaning up the messes she’s finding - along with some things my playtesting has uncovered so far.
My wife an I set a deadline for publishing the playtest version. We’re going to have it ready before the end of the submission period for the Bundle for Cancer Research.
Pressure12 Jam
posted their Pressure12 SRD and I’ve started a game jam for it. You can also jump into this chat to talk about what you’re working on, to get help, etc.The Whispered Depths
Speaking of the Pressure12 system and jam. I’ve written a game based on the SRD. I’ll be posting it to itch later this week, so keep an eye out. It’s an attempt at making a dungeon game as short as I can while being flavorful and exciting. The SRD did the heavy lifting, but I think my proof of concept game worked out pretty well.
More about this in the chat noted above.
CB Spring Jam
The CfB Spring 2025 Jam is plugging away. I shared the mystery template for Rosewood Abbey, and iamatrex’s awesome collection of other templates to make it easier to contribute. It’s open until the end of June, and currently has 15 participants and 4 submissions.
Katas for Keepers
I’ve outlined an article about GM development through out-of-game practice for the Summer Sprigs & Kindling. This is a free, community created zine for Carved from Brindlewood and Rooted in Trophy games and adjacent stuff.
People & Places of Degoya County
I’ve already submitted my summer article of this to Sprigs & Kindling, but I have thoughts for Fall (Halloween themed) and Winter (Beginings and Endings themed) articles that I’ve started outlining.
What I’m Reading
On my gaming shelf right now are:
The Trophy SRD - another SRD, for another game that I’m working on
Something Tookish! - a Carved from Brindlewood game about halflings solving mysteries in the Shire. It’s cute, fun, and inspiring.
Improv for Gamers - rereading this as I work on Katas for Keepers and a new volume of It’s Worse Than That!, it’s just a gem of a book by Karen Twelves.
Hagstones - a collection of small magic items for Mausritter that I’d love to rewrite for Mouse Gold.
Things I’m thinking about
In the vein of Hagstones, I have a growing collection of ideas for things I might work on, but probably will never find time for.
Fischritter - a fishy supplement for Mausritter inspired by Birbritter.
Mouse Detectives - a CfB game of mice solving mysteries.
Mysteries for - Rosewood Abbey, Neon City Blues, Swamp Goblin Mysteries, & Something Tookish!
Reviews of that same list.
A hack of the Pressure12 system.
It’s been a good week to be alive. What are you working on, reading about, or thinking about?
